table talk pies posterEvery year, Pi Day falls on March 14th (or 3/14) because PI (π) (an infinite universal constant number)  equates approximately to 3.14159... It is calculated taking the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter.

A company founded in Worcester, that has been baking and selling pies since 1924, "Table Talk Pies", started donating pies in the early 2000s to area educators every year on or around Pi Day. Their website states they started out small with a “handful of schools and programs”, however, today they “provide over 70,000 pies to over 180 schools and programs in 85 cities throughout the Northeast.” The pies donated are used for educational purposes to help teach students about Pi.

WMS had a pi challenge where the objective was to “Find Pi in Pie”!
They
were  given a brief introduction about what Pi was before diving into the challenge. To do this challenge students measured the donated pies, and used a calculator to do the division in hopes of coming up with the number pi!

The pictures are of Mr.Alaownis's 6th grade class who participated in the Pi Day challenge.
